Obituary of Ludwig Arvid Moe
Ludwig (Ludy) Moe
August 14, 1920 – April 26, 2020
Ludy passed away at the Hanna Long Term Care at the age of 99. He was born in Kiran, Norway and came to Canada with his parents and younger sister at age 4. They rented a couple of different farms southeast of Hanna before buying some land northeast of Craigmyle in the Princeton area where he attended school.
Growing up on the farm led to a love of agriculture and the eventual taking over the family farm. While playing guitar at a nearby community dance, he met a young lady by the name of Grace Kalenith and they were married in November 1953. Donald was born in September 1954, and Edward in May 1957. Ludy lived on the farm until health issues prompted a move to the Hanna LTC in 2016.
Over the years, Dad enjoyed many hobbies including: music, hunting and fishing, lapidary, electronics, painting, welding, auction sales, and fixing things. He was thrilled when two granddaughters arrived, and he had someone to teach how to fish!! Spoiling the girls became a new hobby!
Upon retiring from farming, his activities included hydroponics, gardening, wine making, rummage sales, and archery. The coffee pot was always on at the Moe home.
Ludy is predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Astrid, and sister Anne.
He is survived by sons Don (Angie) and Ed, and granddaughters Jesse (Peter) and Tasha (Nick).
Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at HLTC who made his life pleasant in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hanna Ladies Auxiliary (Hanna Long Term Care) Box 23, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0.
Hopefully, we will be able to have a celebration of life for Ludy this summer.
