Obituary of Terry Burnett Ward
It is with deep sadness the family of Terry Burnett Ward announces his passing at the age of 76 years in Hanna, AB. Terry is survived by his partner, Lorna Dussome; his son’s, Conrad (Maddy), Nathan (Renée), Jerad (Andrea) and daughter Joanne; his grandchildren, Evan & Aiden; Kayla, Rylee & Remington; and Hailey; as well as his sister’s, Penny, Linda, Sherryl and brother’s, Dudley & Marcus; plus countless friends and extended family.
Terry was predeceased by his wife Loretta, his parents Dennis & Evelyn, and sister Carole.
An absolute legend among an elite group of Submariners, Terry was a decorated Chief Petty Officer in the British Royal Navy. He travelled the world under the sea on both diesel and nuclear submarines. He deserves the proud and time honoured title of Submariner. The love of a good woman stole his heart and landed him. In 1975 he immigrated from England with his wife and children to her homeland in Canada. The sea always called him; however, his heart was forever settled. Rest in Peace knowing you were loved and will be forever... from sea to sky and beyond.
The current pandemic precludes a large service so the Ward family will be celebrating Terry’s life at a small private gathering.
In my sails, the wind has set me free
The perils of life are no longer to be
I’m still here in your memories, in your sleep
Above the heavens and to the oceans deep
My love will be the compass that sees me through
As my family was my cherished crew
I know I will often dock in your minds
You will be surprised at what your memory finds
On this ship I know we will meet again
We will sail the seas together then
If one so desires, donations in memory of Terry are gratefully accepted to the Hanna Royal Canadian Legion Branch# 25, Box 1407, Hanna, Alberta, T0J 1P0.
