Obituary of Bernice Pincombe

Pearl Bernice Pincombe was born on January 23rd, 1928 in Calgary, Alberta and passed away on July 12, 2020 in Hanna, Alberta at the age of 92 years. She was one of 3 children born to Ellen and John Wilson of Craigmyle, Alberta. She spent her childhood in the Craigmyle area playing in the poplar grove of trees on the Wilson homestead and attended the Victor School. The trees to the north of her childhood farm were very thick and a space was cleared where she and her brother Eldon played and had picnics with the neighbours. On summer days as a young girl, Bernice enjoyed being outside, relished in getting the mail one mile away from home and always had kittens or dogs to play with. Her favourite childhood storybook was Black Beauty and one of her favourite silly things to do with her brother, Eldon, was to look through the Eaton’s Catalogue and see who could slap the “Star Specials” first as they flipped through the pages. Bernice moved to Hanna at 18 years old and became a life-long resident of Hanna. Her first job was at the Royal Bank right after the war in 1946. A short while later, she went to a dance at Victor Hall with a friend where she met Gordon Pincombe. Bernice was attracted to Gordon because he was handsome and attentive. Gordon proposed by giving her a ring in the National Hotel Coffee Shop and the two were married August 16th, 1950. Bernice also worked at Sears and was active in the Royal Canadian Legion, Hanna Ladies Auxiliary and many other community events. Gordon and Bernice enjoyed travelling and visited Banff, Hawaii and Alaska. They also travelled to Vancouver and Nova Scotia by train. Bernice’s biggest accomplishment in life was self-described as being a Mother. Gordon and Bernice welcomed a son, Jim, in 1953, a daughter, Betty Ann, in 1957 and later added Valarie to their family in 1966. She once said that all the love you give as a Mother comes back to you many times over and, in her opinion, life would be very empty without her children. She was caring and compassionate to all and considered the Wrights like her own family. Bernice loved each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her passing her children Jim (Sandra), Betty Ann (Murray), and Valarie. Her grandchildren Terri Lynn (Cory), Trevor (Kathy), Jennifer (Dan), Heather (Scott), and Randy (Shayla) as well as her great grandchildren Emmett, Norah, Claire, Wyatt, Regan, Rachel, Brynn, Cooper, Kendiss, and Kylee. Bernice will be lovingly remembered for her caring, kind and compassionate nature. A private family service is planned for July 20th in Hanna, Alberta.
