Obituary of Ruby Ruth Hausher

It is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to Ruby Ruth Hausher, who passed away on April 27, 2021, at the age of 93 years.

Ruby was born to John and Marie Steinbrecker in their family home at Scapa, AB, on May 6, 1927. She went to two different schools in the Scapa area, completing Grade 11, and then went to work as an office clerk at the Hanna Creamery.

On October 24, 1948 she married the love of her life Ervin Hausher and they moved to Endiang where they started farming and raising their family. After 45 years of farming, they sold their farm and moved to   Hanna. Over the years Ruby and Ervin enjoyed many trips and activities with family and friends and especially the 13 years of winters in Arizona. Together they enjoyed camping, golfing, fishing, baseball, dance parties, going to casinos, bingos, card games and much more. Lots of laughs and lots of memories.

Ruby was very much involved in her communities. She was an active member on the Endiang Community Hall Board, Home & School Association and OORP (Order of the Royal Purple/Community Builders). She started the 4-H sewing club in Endiang as well as worked with the food, beef, and multi grain 4-H clubs. She also drove the school bus for Endiang students for 27 years. Besides her community responsibilities she kept busy on the farm. She was known for growing a large garden, sharing the bounty with her family and many neighbors and friends. One of her pride and joys were the beautifully made and decorated wedding cakes she made for many people in her community of family and friends. She was an avid seamstress, sewing many clothes for family and friends, including fancy gowns for weddings and graduations and other special occasions. In her retirement years she was active with the Senior’s Centre in Hanna and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, receiving her 20-year volunteer pin from Alberta Heath Services.

Ruby loved her family dearly and took a deep interest in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always interested in their activities, accomplishments and attended their special days, when she could, often putting their needs ahead of her own. Ruby will be remembered for being generous, loving, fun, strong willed and resilient, which was never more evident than when bearing intense grief and more recently battling her health issues.

Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Ervin Hausher in 2016; daughters: Cheryl in 1973, and Carol in 1994; also, her parents, four brothers,  two sisters, and several brothers and sisters-in-laws.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Lloyd (Audrey) Hausher of Brooks and her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Candice (Devon) Buteau and their children Russell, Cody and Jetta; Kristy (Brian) Bidyk of Calgary and their children Madison, Tyler, and Courtney; Jeff (Wendy) Fortna of Hanna and their children Jillian and April; Jamie (Levi) Honeker of Sylvan Lake and their children Nate and Emerson; Lacey Fortna of Edmonton; son-in-law Doug (Ruth) Fortna of Hanna and Megan (Kevin) Olsen of Hanna; Ruby will also be missed by her sister Irene (Frank) Haessel-Harvey of Hanna; sisters-in-law Louise Blakey of Edmonton; and Pat Steinbrecker of Calgary; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family of Ruby would like to extend a special thank you to Dr, Mdawe and all the nursing staff at the Hanna Hospital and CC for the special care and kindness shown to Ruby and her family while she was there as well as her many friends in the Manor and community for their love and support.

Due to covid restrictions a private gravside service will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Hanna Cemetery.
