Thelma Marjorie Williams

1927 ~ 2021

Thelma was born in the Drumheller Hospital January 8, 1927 and grew up on a farm in the Dundee district North of Hanna with her parents Wilbert and Annie Greenwood and her four siblings. As a young girl Thelma loved being outdoors to help milk the cows, riding horses and tending to chores. As a young teenager, to help out the war effort she wrote to the young men from the district who had enlisted to keep them up to date on the local news of the area. In July of 1949 Thelma married Keith Williams and they moved into Hanna. They raised their family of five on an acreage just west of town. Thelma was a loving, hardworking, and kind wife, mother, and friend. Having no running water on the farm until 1970, she would get up very early Wednesday mornings and take all the laundry (10 to 12 loads) to the laundry mat, making sure her family always had clean clothes to wear. They retired into town in 1979 and finally got her own washer and dryer. She did have to bring her gas stove with her though. Thelma was a dedicated Colfax Rebekah Lodge Lifetime member and loved her sisters. She loved serving the community through them, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the First United Church. Thelma loved to dance. She and dad would often step out to the Legion for this, and they rarely missed a New Year’s Eve there where they would get to dress up in their finery. In retirement years mom took to knitting… we all got our sweaters, cross stitching, and if you received one it’s a treasure for sure. She enjoyed reading, kept on baking our favourite treats and found she loved to travel. After Keith passed away Thelma decided she had enough of her own cooking and moved over to Rimbey into the Seniors Lodge where she was loved by residents and staff alike. Her granddaughter Shannon lived in Rimbey, so she could keep an eye on her. She has been there for the last eight years until she entered the hospital September 22 where she put up a courageous fight with Covid-19 pneumonia.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Sandra (Mark) Boisvert, son Dennis Williams, daughter Connie (Zane) Fricke, Carla (Steve) Walker, grandchildren: Grant (Rachelle) Stuber, Meagan (Siyani) Lindlow, Katrina Fricke and special granddaughter Shannon (Shawn) Mann; plus, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Thelma was predeceased by her son Barrie in 1976 and her husband Keith in 2011, as well as her siblings and parents.

Family grave side service to be held Friday October 8th with a celebration of life at a later date.
