It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Julie Marie Fecho. Julie passed away at the Hanna Hospital on April 20, 2023, with her children at her side.
Julie was born in Prelate Saskatchewan on May 6, 1942, she was the fifth of nine children. When Julie was five the family moved to Porcupine Plains, and then at fourteen she moved to Hanna with her parents Emilia Theresa (Paul) and Emil Hartman. Julie went to high school in Hanna and also worked in the York and Liberty cafes. When she was sixteen, she began work in the kitchen at the hospital. When she was eighteen, Julie left for Calgary to attend nursing school. Julie graduated from the Certified School of Nursing Aids on March 17, 1961. She began nursing at the Hanna hospital in April 1961 where she cared for a young man with rheumatic fever. Her co-workers teased her by calling it “romantic fever” because that patient became her future husband. Julie married Lloyd Housch on October 11, 1962 and they moved to a farm near Spondin. They had two children: Dee and John. Julie embraced farm life; she had a large garden, did lots of canning, milked cows, drove the school bus, and nursed part time. Lloyd passed away in 1976. The family moved to Hanna and Julie began work at the Nursing Home full time for three years, then transferred to the hospital where she worked until retirement. Julie loved nursing; she worked at the Hanna hospital for 35 years, completed EMS training in 1985 and was certified as a Hemodialysis nurse in 1988.
In her spare time Julie enjoyed art, painting, crafting, and ceramics. She also loved games and challenging her mind; she was a wiz at crosswords, a master at scrabble, and could beat the contestants at any of her favorite game shows on television. When it came to card games, especially with her sisters, she was a serious competitor. Julie was an animal lover, spoiling her dogs and cats which brought her great joy. What Julie enjoyed most however was people. She loved spending time with friends and family, making them laugh with her quick wit and incredible sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by so many. With time, her memory will always bring a smile.
Julie leaves behind her daughter Dee (David) Unsworth, son John (Maryanne) Housch; granddaughters: Alexandria (Matthew), Erinn (Domenic), Emilia, Elizabeth; her great grandchildren Ryker and Ridley, siblings: Loretta Sabine, Dennis (Barb) Hartman, Doris Nelson; many nieces and nephews; ex-husband Lloyd Fecho and stepchildren Kelly Fecho and Shannon Thengs. Julie is predeceased by her siblings: Helena Stoppler, Jo Botterill, Valerie Rekiel, Chuck Hoffart and Harvey Hartman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday April 29, 2023, at the Hanna Lions Hall. Donations in Julie’s memory can be made to the Harvest Sky Animal Rescue.
