Obituary of Audrey Edith Legoffe

After a short battle with cancer Audrey passed away peacefully in the Hanna Hospital on Jan 22, 2024.  Audrey passed away surrounded with the love of her children and grandchildren holding her hand. Our deepest thank you to all the nurses, and the doctors for making the last part of her life journey as painless and comfortable as possible. Their kindness, compassion and consideration were exceptional and we owe you our most sincere gratitude for everything you had done for our Mom.

Audrey was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec in 1940 with her 2 sisters Joan, Doreen, and 1 brother Arnold.  She moved to Thunder Bay where she met her husband Gordon Wright, and had 5 children Gordon (Rick), Debra & David (twins), Gary and then Catherine.  After a tragic loss of David, the marriage dissolved. Audrey met Lionel Legoffe and they were soon married in Dryden ONT. They moved to Blaine Lake SK where they had two more children Duane and Dianne. Audrey and Lionel transferred to Saskatoon SK, Dawson Creek / Ft Nelson BC, Hay River NWT, and Whitehorse YT while working for CN, and raising their 6 children.   After achieving an empty nest, Audrey and Lionel went their separate ways.

Audrey met her life partner Bob Cartwright, and they settled at Flat Creek Yukon for 30 years, “The Flat Creek Estate”. They were off grid but with all the amenities of modern living, power, running water, and heat. She had a special Love of the Yukon, with its vast beauty, wildlife and Northern Lights. A true inspiration for her artistic nature. She loved the adventure of life, and marveled at the natural beauty all around her, which she expressed through her paintings.

Audrey worked in many places along her journeys through life.  She was very energetic and always on the go. She worked at Woolworths, Royal Bank, Nova Scotia Bank, CIBC Banks. Audrey was also a cook at the Klondike River Lodge, and many years at Ross Mining camp. Audrey had many years of experience cooking for a large crew, after raising her 6 children, it was an easy adjustment. There was always coffee and fresh baked goods for everyone that stopped in to visit them at “The Flat Creek Estate”.

After Bob’s passing, she decided to settle in Hanna AB where she spent her last 3 years. Audrey loved meeting and talking with the lovely people in Hanna. She felt right at home in this small town and loved her view of the sunsets off her deck. As well as watching the deer as they made their way into town.

Audrey was a compassionate and empathetic soul, who loved to meet and talk to everyone. Animals seem to trust her, and were drawn to her, dogs, cats, birds, lost moose calf, a Raven with 1 leg, all which she would nurture, and help. Audrey felt the same way towards all people, if they needed help, she was there, from just being someone they could talk to, or lend a helping hand. Audrey would smile that infectious smile of hers and help, out of the kindness in her heart. She believed that every soul just needed a little help now and then, and she felt it was her responsibility in life to help where she could.

Audrey also had an awesome sense of humour and many favorite phrases, here are a few of her phrases:

“One day at a time”;  “Git R Dun”;  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”;  “Don’t judge until you have walked in their shoes”;  “Clean out your own corner”;   “Don’t open that door, unless you plan on going through it”; and my favorite,  “Eat Desert First Life is Short”.

Audrey was devoted to her family, and extended family. Audrey loved all her children equally with a world of care and compassion.  Audrey was there for emotional support or a helping hand at moments notice. She truly had a heart of gold and will be forever missed by all that had the privilege to make her acquaintance.
