Obituary of Donald (Don) Calvin Raisanen

It is with profound sadness that the family of Donald Raisanen announce his peaceful passing on September 7, 2024 in Hanna Alberta.

Calvin Donald Raisanen was born to Arvid and Hilda Raisanen on July 1, 1944, in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan.

Don was raised on the family farm in Rock Point, Saskatchewan. In his younger years he helped on the farm
and especially liked his time in the summers with his family in North Dakota.

Don married the love of his life, Patricia Cameron on July 6, 1966 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan where he began his career as a marine mechanic with Hunters Trailer and Marine.

Don and Pat welcomed their first daughter Angela in March of 1967. In March of 1970 they welcomed a second daughter, Kandace. Their son Troy completed the family by arriving in March of 1973.

Dad loved working with his hands and was a skilled carpenter, there was nothing he could not build or fix and his creative nature expanded into landscaping and design as he spent many years operating D & R Landscaping and Nursery with his brother in-law Rick.

With the desire to be closer to their children and grandchildren Don and Pat decided to relocate to Hanna in 2001 where they would remain for the rest of their days.

Don’s life forever changed when Pat passed away in December of 2004.

Affectionately known as “Bumpa” to his family, he worked at the Sheerness Power Plant until his retirement. It was then that he fulfilled his lifelong dream and opened Bumpa Don’s Tree farm in 2008. The next 16 years were filled doing what he loved, tending to his trees and taking pride in providing superior quality to his customers. In the summers you could find Don at the tree farm watering, trimming trees and sharing his lunches with “Buddy” the dog. Buddy was such a faithful lunch partner that an extra sandwich was often packed just for him. When the tree farm closed for the season Don moved on to another passion of his which was hockey and faithfully followed his grandsons to many different towns and rinks to watch them play.

More joy was brought to his life when he was promoted from grandpa to great grandpa.

Left to honour the love he instilled in his family are his daughters Angie (Kelly) Raisanen, Kandi (Glenn) Rose, and son Troy (Karen) Raisanen. Seven grandchildren, Cody (Jen) Rose, Lacey (Braiden) Rose, Stefani (Luis) Jasso-Viste, Thomas (Tiana) Viste, Logan (Liz) Viste, Travis (Cassie) Raisanen and Josh (Heidi) Raisanen, two grand puppies, Cooper and Baylee, and three great grandchildren, Owen Rose, Luna and Ceilo Viste. Along with his sister Iona Holmstrom, many brother and sister in-laws and his special nephew Delwyn (Debbie) Raisanen in addition to numerous other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
