Obituary of Leslie Calvin Hutton

Leslie Calvin Hutton was born September 14, 1941 to Albert and Doris Hutton in Hanna, AB. He started life on the now Doug Hutton place and then moved at 6 years of age to the family farm that Harley now lives on. Les attended school at Watts until Highschool and then finished in Hanna. Dad then attended Olds College for an Agricultural Degree. We hear that he was quite the prankster and the light of the party. In October of 1965, Les married the love of his life, Linda Fadden and what an incredible journey they have been on. Fifty-two years of marriage, they began married life together on The Ranch at Sheerness, where they milked cows, raised pigs and began Les’s dream of owning a high-quality herd of cattle. Soon they added a baby girl to their lives, Cheryl was born in 1968. They then moved back to Watts and bought the Fleck Farm which was just across the road from his parents and started a successful family farming business with his dad and brother. Harley joined the family in 1969 and this little unit was complete. Les and Linda continued to run a cow/calf operation at Sheerness and Grain farm and at Watts. Dad sold snowmobiles for a short while and loved to go to races at Campions track in his younger days. Dad loved rodeo and never missed an opportunity to attend a rodeo either in Hanna, Edmonton or any other little place around. In these later years, Dad never ever missed going to the Chucks, he loved the races and if he couldn’t go then he had the radio up full blast listening to the play by play action. Dad belonged to Rural Crime Watch for over 30 Years. He was a strong believer in the abilities of this organization. As a family, we always had time for camping in the summer, taking many yearly trips for 2 weeks to Prince George to hang at the lake with Neil and Darlene and the kids. We learned to water ski, make fires and make smores. We always went skiing in the mountains in the winter months with friends and family. Music and dance were his passion. If you wanted to find Pa, you just listened for his whistle. Dad loved to dance and made sure that we went to family dances all around the country, so we could learn the old time waltz and to 2 step, the heal toe and the bunny hop. He sure enjoyed the invention of Sirrus Radio and Willy’s Road House, non-stop classics. Mom and Dad have danced their way thru life, travelling to Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand and spending winters in Arizona. Papa’s greatest joy were his grandchildren, Dalyn, Shane, Kirby, Walker, Reegan, Dexter and Clay. He not once ever called them by name; to him they were known as Chicken, Newt, Brat, Sqwaker, Billy, Tex and Buddy. He was so proud of each and everyone of them and the special bond that he held with them all. It was pretty heartwarming when all seven of them were gathered around his bed, all holding his hand, telling him about their days, and Clay telling him that “it would be ok Papa, Clay Robert and Mommy are here to help you.” Papa passed away peacefully on May 29th at the age of 75 from complications of Cancer. He was strong and never complained ever during what was pure frustration these past few weeks. He was hopeful at fighting this disease and seeing many more years with his family and friends. However, that was not to be, and he just went to sleep and will be waiting for each and everyone of us to follow with his beautiful smile, a cold Bud Light, ready for an intense BS session and his dancing shoes on. Les is survived by his beloved wife Linda of 52 years, his daughter Cheryl and Rob, Dalyn, Shane and Kirby, his son Harley and Joni, Walker, Reegan, Dexter and Clay and numerous extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Doris Hutton, his brother Barry Hutton, Grandparents, Annie and Martin Dahl, A.A. and Dottie Hutton.
