Obituary of Roger Gerard Baumgartner
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Gerard Baumgartner, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Roger was born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan, on November 4, 1956, the ninth child of Robert and Mary Baumgartner. He moved to Sunnynook in 1980, where he resided for 44 years. He began his career at Manalta Coal in 1986 at the Sheerness Mine, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 2019.
Roger was a devoted father to Faye and Michael, and a proud grandfather to Alex, who became the light of his life. He was happiest when surrounded by people and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. In addition to his love for people, Roger had a deep passion for working with his hands and reading. He took pride in his craftsmanship and was always busy with projects, both big and small. On summer days, you could often find him mowing his lawn.
He was known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. Roger had a way of brightening every room he entered, and he was a constant presence in the lives of those he cared for.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Baumgartner; his brothers Jim and John; his sister Kathy; and his nephew Brandon. He is survived by his children, Faye Crawford (Keith) and Mike Baumgartner; his brothers and sisters, Bill (Denise), Ed (Gerry), George (Tammy), Carol (Al), and Bob (Martina); his grandchild Alex Crawford; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on October 28 at 1:00 p.m. in Pollockville at the hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or STARS, or simply to offer a kind act in Roger’s honor.
