Obituary of Lorne Rowe
Lorne Rowe of Hanna, Alberta passed away on March 1, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Lorne is survived by his wife Margaret; one daughter, Anne (Randy), three sons: John, Len (Cheryl), and George (Julie), four grandchildren: Trevor, Jeff, Koryn, and Megan, and two great grandchildren: Nathan and Owen.
Lorne was predeceased by his mother, Bessie, in 2004 and a son, Richard, in 2016.
Lorne was born in Calgary and spent his childhood years on the Rowe family farm south of Youngstown and some of his school years in Sunnynook which is where he met Margaret. Lorne and Margaret were married on July 4, 1953 and would have celebrated their 65 Wedding Anniversary this year.
Lorne purchased a farm near Stanmore where he and Margaret farmed and raised their family and were proud of their Hereford cattle. During that time Lorne spent 15 years on the Special Areas Road Committee, 35 years on the Burns REA, 19 years with the Youngstown 4-H Club, sometimes in a leader capacity. He also worked 2 1/2 years at the Shields Auction Market in Hanna, was a Board member of the Stanmore Club and worked on The Richdale CNR crew.
Lorne and Margaret moved to Hanna in 1990 and fully retired from farming in 1994 when they sold the farm.
Lorne enjoyed retirement life with activities such as curling, playing cards, and visiting with friends. He served 2-3 terms on the Hanna United Church Board, taking frequent trips with Margaret, and being a member of the Hanna Seniors Curling for 15 years.
The family would like to express their thanks to the Hanna Hospital and to Unit 47, Special Services at the Tom Baker Center in Calgary for their compassionate care during the last days for Lorne. Lorne was surrounded by all his family in his final days.
Funeral Services will be held at the First United Church in Hanna on March 10, 2018 at 1 pm.
