Obituary of Barry Wayne Rees

Barry passed away peacefully July 16/ 2019 with family by his side at the Hanna Health Centre at the age of 69 years.

Barry was born May 19, 1950, in the Hanna Hospital and was raised on the farm near Craigmyle. He attended school in Craigmyle and Delia, completing his high school at Ernst Manning in Calgary.

After his schooling Barry married June Meller in 1972, making their home back in the Craigmyle area. During this union Gregory was adopted in 1974. At this time, he took over the family farm living there for a short time and then moving to Hanna for the remainder of his life.

Barry's main livelihood was his cattle. During his adult life he worked in construction and shared ownership in a car wash and owned rental properties. In his spare time Barry's passion for sports had him coaching minor baseball and hockey. By coaching he was able to spend time and pass on his love of sports to his son Greg.

Monique Marie Delisle came into his life in 1994 and has been his understanding and loving companion for the past 25 years, sharing in his farm life, travelling and family ventures together.

He is predeceased by his grandparents: John and Emma Rees, Norman and Avis Hunter; parents Gwynvor and Helen Rees; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins.

He is lovingly remembered by Monique, Gregory (Tracy), Tina (Roger), Gillian, Ella, and Aline, Marc (Jacqueline); sister Harriet (Roy), brothers: Norman (Rose) Bill (Mary Anne); uncle and aunts; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Hanna Health Centre that cared for Barry with such professional care and compassion shown to Barry. Thank you to the Doctors, Nursing Staff, and all others that touched a moment in his life.  Thank you to Laurie from Hanna Funeral Services for her professionalism and compassionate guidance through this difficult time.

A Celebration of Barry’s life will be held on Wed, July 24, 2019, 2:00 P.M., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hanna, AB.
