Obituary of Mabel Viola Fielding

Mabel Anderson Hein Fielding passed away May 26, 2019, at the Long Term Care Facility in Hanna, AB, at the age of 95. Mabel was born on December 11, 1923 on the family farm near Stanmore. She was the youngest of twelve children born to Andrew(Andreas) and Beret Anna Anderson (nee Marholm) who immigrated from Norway. She is pre-deceased by all of her brothers and sisters; first husband, Rudy Hein, and her second husband, Charlie Fielding.

Mabel leaves to mourn her passing, daughters: Terry (Sam) Meikle, and Dianne Heal (Hein); three grandchildren: Dalena Pongo, James Meikle (Cassandra), and Brad (Sonia) Meikle; four great grandchildren: Maren and Kaden Pongo, Sam Meikle Jr., and Emma Bauer; and two step sons: Doug Fielding, Vern (Shirley) Fielding, and their families.

Mabel loved growing up on the family farm, and especially loved riding her beloved pinto, and helping out with all aspects of farm life. She became a teacher and taught 43 years in the Hanna area. She was gifted with artistic talents that was portrayed in her own art work, and the art work of her students. She also loved the performing arts; and put on a wonderful Christmas Concerts at all of her schools.

In later years, she became an avid gardener, won many prizes for her roses, and her yard. She served on the committee for Hanna in Bloom, and was an artistic judge for the Fall Fair. Many of her students from the Hand Hills Lake Hutterite Colony won awards for creative writing, and for their art work. Mabel was an active member of the Red Hatters Group, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and faithfully attended Remembrance Day Ceremonies in many of the schools in the area with her Husband Charlie, for about 25 years.

Mabel loved camping and fishing with the family, and some travelling in the motorhome. She loved putting on her yearly garden parties, which hosted many friends and relatives far and wide. Her last garden party was in 2005 and hosted many relatives visiting from Norway.

Mabel moved to the Hanna Lodge in 2012, and the Hanna Long Term Care in 2015. Special thanks to all of the workers and caregivers at these 2 facilities, and Dr. Hanna and the Hanna Hospital. The family is very appreciative of the care and companionship given to Mabel by Helping Hands.
